Protein Flapjacks!

This weekend I’ve been experimenting with some new snack ideas. I plan to join the gym after I start my job (as I’m a little short on money) and plan to try to eat right whilst doing it. I’m not going on a ‘diet’ because I hate that word but I’d like to eat more fruit and veg and eat the right things after a workout.

So I tried to make a post gym treat this weekend. I went with the classic – flapjacks! I’ve added some other things to them – which I think runners may need after some endurance training.

The recipe is below:

Ingredients:

250g of oats

125g of butter

125g brown sugar

2 – 3 tbsp of golden syrup

1.5 scoops of chocolate protein powder

2 tbsp of peanut butter

Melted chocolate for the top – 1 bar

Method:

  1. Melt the butter, brown sugar, golden syrup and peanut butter in a pan on a low heat.
  2. Once everything is melted, add the oats and protein powder and stir together.
  3. Bake in an oven proof dish for around 20 minutes at 200 degrees or until golden brown on the top.
  4. Once the flapjack is cooled, melt the chocolate and spread on the top.

I like flapjacks because they are easy to make and you can put what you want in them! Try adding dried fruit like raisins or dried cranberries or taking out the peanut butter to make them a little healthier!
